How much does

Newborn photography cost?

There are a number of key elements that dictate the cost of Newborn photography.

TIME

Time is by far the biggest element of cost: the time to pack for your shoot, the shoot itself, getting set up to shoot and of course the repack and take down, settling and moving your baby between set ups, the travel to and from your shoot, and the editing time needed to make your images as beautiful as can be.

For each shoot I block out the entire day so that you get all the energy and time you and your baby need (shoots are typically 2-3 hours)

PROPS

High quality props are a necessity. I try to provide a range of different props and a variety of colours for you to choose from. My props and styling are what sets me apart from other newborn photographers and I do invest heavily in making sure you have the best available options for your shoot.

OK, I have a prop-buying addiction. There, I said it.

EQUIPMENT

Aside from the props, there’s my camera.

My favourite companion is the Canon ЕОЅ 5D Маrk ІІІ Dіgіtаl ЅLR from the Canon Pro range.

It takes beautiful photographs of your precious bundles, and teams up with my equally impressive lens.

That’s the non-technical explanation. If you’d like to know the technical details, read on. If not, skip ahead to the Training section – no hard feelings.

Used by professional рhоtоgrарhеrѕ all over the world, this camera produces exceptional image quality at an impressive speed and іtѕ fеаturеѕ іnсludе: а 22.3МР full-frаmе СМОЅ ѕеnѕоr; роwеrful DІGІС 5+ рrосеѕѕоr; fаѕt frаmе rаtе оf 6fрѕ; 61-роіnt АF ѕуѕtеm; аnd ехраndаblе ІЅО rаngе frоm 50-102,400. And I team it up with the impressive Саnоn ЕF 24-70mm f/2.8L ІІ UЅМ lеnѕ which іѕ а fаѕt ареrturе zооm ѕuіtаblе fоr аll аrеаѕ оf рhоtоgrарhу. TRAINING

I invest heavily in my training to ensure you are getting the best professional shots possible. From the technical aspects including lighting, to newborn safety and posing, I’ve taken training in it.

And that is before the essential business training to ensure that my pricing, strategy and marketing are aligned to my strong set to values and vision of creating beautiful bespoke family history for families across the North East.

Each home I walk into is a new studio. You all have different colour homes and different sized spaces in which to photograph your babies. You need to be confident that I have the skills to adapt to each new situation and achieve great results. I promise, I do.

QUALIFICATIONS

For me, it’s important that you know I am the real deal, that you can trust me with your little one.

I joined the Guild of Photographers in 2015 and since then have been through their three tiers of Qualification. From simply Qualified in Newborn and Baby photography, to Craftsman, and in Feb 2020 achieving the highest accolade they can give of Master Craftsman.

I enter their international Image of the Month competition to ensure that my work is consistent, and as a result have achieved the Photographer’s Bar in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 which demonstrates a consistent professional standard.

I have also placed in the top ten Newborn and Baby photographers 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. Whilst my images for my Master Craftsman submission were shot for purpose, all the images that have achieved accolades in the Image of the Month competition have come from within client shoots in their homes

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • How does that compare to other photographers in the industry?

I can’t speak for anyone else because shoot times, quality of props, equipment, training and qualifications vary widely – as does the amount of input you as parents have to the styling of your shoot.

But that old saying ‘you get what you pay for’ couldn’t be more accurate when it comes to Newborn Photography. I would urge you to challenge any photographer you’re thinking of engaging to take your photos – ask them to demonstrate their skill set and ask for evidence of their training too.

  • Where do I sit within the Industry?

I still middle to top end. Your choice of photographer all depends on how bespoke you want your shoot to be. I absolutely love what I do, and I have invested properly so that you can trust the quality of my work and have faith in the person handling your little miracle.

  • How do your packages work?

To explain, how I work is the booking fee of £100 is paid upfront and is then taken off your chosen package on the day. I like to be really upfront about costs so you know exactly what you are in for before we start. The booking fee ensures your date in my diary. I have three Experiences:

    BRONZE

£299 if purchased on the day of your shoot. I come to you as a mobile service to your home (I usually arrive about 9 - 9.30am depending on traffic), a 1-2 hour shoot, with four standard set ups. This shoot doesn’t include any completely naked shots or family shoots but can include siblings. Shoot is expected to last 1-2 Hours. Details of prints and digitals included are on my pricelist shared at enquiry. Average 10 – 15 images to choose from.

    SILVER

£399 if purchased on the day of your shoot, I come to you as a mobile service to your home (I usually arrive about 9 - 9.30am depending on traffic), a 2-3 hour shoot, with four standard set ups in colours of your choice and includes naked shots if you wish, family and sibling shots. Details of prints and digitals included are on my pricelist shared at enquiry . Average 15 – 25 images to choose from.

    GOLD

£499 if purchased on the day of your shoot. I come to you as a mobile service to your home (I usually arrive about 9 - 9.30am depending on traffic), a 3-4 hour shoot, with six bespoke set ups in colours of your choice and includes naked shots if you wish, siblings, parent, and family shots. I would normally get you to go through my newborn albums and ‘like’ what you like to give me an idea what to pack and bring. Details of prints and digitals included are on my pricelist shared at enquiry. Average 25+ images.

I can accept card payments (they have a 2.5% surcharge), or you can pay instalments in the months leading up.

  • What products are included?

All experiences include a selection of different sized prints or digitals or both from your shoot depending on your budget. Prints are all sourced from a professional printing lab. The edited digital images are a great option for you to print and reproduce as you need – some parents use them for canvases, thank you cards, mugs, calendars, or make multi-frames for gifts - you name it! If you need just a few more of each I do have some bolt on package optios that can be requested if you need a few more prints for the grandparents for example.

  • Why I don’t do framed images or Canvas?

This is easy, as a parent over the years I have wanted to update and swap the images in my home. However, I got fooled at my own newborn shoot with a lack of transparency and ended up buying really expensive wall art that now I am really reluctant to take down as it cost a fortune! I would rather you got more prints and digital images at a fair than fewer and more expensive wall art.

Plus, if wall art or canvases are what you want, you can order them independently, making your own frame and sizing choices to suit your home styling – and without the massive mark up from me! So it’s much cheaper for you to have the digital images to play with.

  • I really want to do it but it feels expensive when we have a lot to buy?

You are not the first to think like this, there is a lot to buy for a new baby, travel systems alone are £600+. However I also meet parents who wished they had spent less on some items that they only needed for a year or so and got the photos to last a lifetime.

  • What happens after the shoot?

It takes 7 – 14 days to get the images edited and back to you for choosing. Each image has its own file number so we know we are talking about the same photo when your order. I just need a list, when you are ready, of which images you want, in which sizes.

  • How do I book?

Easy – I have a standard shoot fee of £100 to secure your day in my diary. Your day is your day, no other shoots for me to be rushing to, we need to work with your baby and their time table for feeds etc. I recommend booking after your 20 week scan to ensure we get you in the diary.
